Seismic Upgrade

September 28, 2017

Gaston School District wrote and received a Seismic Rehabilitation Grant for $1.5 million to rehabilitate the elementary school. The work was completed last summer and a few punch list items are being completed over the next few weeks. The school received an entirely new roof that is reinforced and tied into walls which have been strengthened and tied into the foundation. Some windows and doors were removed to strengthen the wall units. When construction was completed, rooms were painted inside. There are still a few projects to complete that were outside the scope of a seismic rehabilitation grant, such as replacing some leaking windows. A plan will be made by the facilities committee to address remaining issues.
